Creating a new company profile or adding project-related information to an existing profile in the database is a way to expose and publicize harms you believe a company is contributing to, with the ultimate goal of stopping and remedying those harms.
An ESG Watch company profile provides easy access to information on a company’s community impacts and human rights record. That can promote accountability by ensuring that:
Investment fund managers have access to the information and can fulfill their own human rights responsibilities, including by doing additional due diligence to confirm or refute specific allegations, and by using their leverage with the company to convince them to address any harms.
ESG rating and index providers and investment fund managers can fulfill their responsibility to ensure the information is reflected in their investment products.
Responsible investors will be able to use the information to inform their investment decisions, including by deciding not to invest in these companies or the funds in which they appear.
Advocates can use the profile in advocacy and engagement with investors, to help convince them to consider the allegations in their decisions, including by screening specific companies out of their portfolios. In the process of creating a profile, advocates will also gain access to information about the ESG fund managers and index providers they can contact to share information on specific companies and request that those companies be removed from investment products.
How to submit information
To contribute to the ESG Watch company database, please fill out the form below, or send an email to esgwatch@inclusivedevelopment.net with the requested information.
If you are submitting a new company for inclusion in the database, the first step will be to confirm whether the company is benefitting from ESG-labeled investment. Once our team has confirmed this, we will reach out to gather additional information about the company and related harmful projects.
